March 2017
6th, 7th, and 8th Grade FACS classes have officially completed their foods unit.  Students learned how to use appropriate tools for measuring as well as how to properly measure various ingredients.  They applied what they learned about food safety, kitchen tools, and equipment by cooking various recipes in the food lab. Be sure to ask your students about these experiences as they may wish to cook these at home in the future if they have not already.

Bon Appetit continues to cook the recipes they organized from their food truck lesson.  Students have really enjoyed choosing their own recipes and implementing them in the food lab.

8th Grade Sewing has been busy creating their very own stuffed animal.  They are also working on experimenting with tie dye and developing a design for their t-shirt pillow.  Look for these great creations to come home at the end of third quarter.

February 2017
FACS classes are finishing up their final sewing projects and will move on to kitchen safety within the next week.

Bon Appetit students are organizing their "food truck." Be sure to ask your student what their food truck name is and the fabulous recipes they will be cooking.

January 2017
6th, 7th, & 8th Grade FACS classes have been discussing sewing safety.  They will begin learning various sewing techniques that will be used to complete their final sewing project.  Feel free to ask your student about the techniques they have learned and be on the lookout for their projects to come home in the upcoming weeks.

Bon Appetite students have been discussing food safety and the importance of proper food handling and storage procedures. Once our food safety unit is complete students will be ready to move in to the kitchen and prepare various recipes for all to enjoy.

November 2016
6th Grade - FACS students have been very busy learning how to sew using a running, back stitch, and a button. They are working on their final projects by applying all techniques they have learned in class and creating their very own magnet. Look for these to come home soon.

7th & 8th Grade - Bon Appetite classes have identified various foodborne pathogens that may cause foodborne illness. They are now able to discuss how to prevent various foodborne illnesses when cooking. They are also in the beginning stages of creating their very own Food Truck. This will be a great way for students to show their creative side and get a little "taste" of what it takes to run a food business.

October 2016
Wow! Hard to believe we have wrapped up the 1st quarter. 6th, 7th, & 8th grades were very busy completing their sewing projects and moved straight into food labs. Hopefully your child has been sharing wonderful new recipes and helping out in the kitchen. Thank you for allowing me to teach your child some of life's most important skills.

Be sure to watch this super quick video

Thanks, 8th Grade!

September 2016
6th Grade is currently wrapping up our unit on character education.  They have had a lot of fun learning about heredity, self-concept, and how to effectively give and receive constructive criticism.  We will begin our sewing after Labor Day.

7th Grade has been evaluating how to become an effective consumer.  They are now able to categorize goods and services as well as factors that influence their buying decisions.  We will be moving into our sewing unit soon.  Please be sure to send a used cotton t-shirt with your child for their final project.

8th Grade has been discussing the milestones and stages of development for infants, toddlers, and preschoolers.  They are also able to explain the importance of play and how play enhances child development.  We will begin our sewing unit after Labor Day. Students will learn advanced techniques when sewing on the sewing machine. Final projects should make their way home the end of September.
